Chocolate Sweet Bread


For  Double Recipe    (Makes 2 Loaves of Bread)

Chocolate Chips and Nuts:

Chocolate Glaze:


  1. Generously grease standard loaf pan(s); set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°.
  3. In a small bowl, melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat the process until the chocolate is completely melted.
  4. Set the chocolate aside to cool. If you do not have a microwave click here for other options on melting chocolate.
  5. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy in texture.
  6. Beat in eggs, vanilla, and almond extract.
  7. Mix in melted chocolate.
  8. Add dry ingredients to work bowl. With mixer on lowest setting, slowly add buttermilk to the work bowl; scraping sides as needed. Turn mixer up to medium-high and beat until batter is smooth; 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  9. On medium speed mix in chocolate chips and optional nuts.
  10. Pour batter into greased loaf pan(s).
  11. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes. Bread is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  12. Remove from oven.
  13. Cool on a rack for 30 minutes.
  14. Turn out.
  15. Spread chocolate glaze over the top of the loaf.
  16. Allow glaze to set up; 15 to 30 minutes.
  17. Serve.
