How To Toast Coconut (Toasted Coconut)



  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Cover the bottom of a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Spread the coconut evenly over the parchment paper.
  4. Bake for approximately 10 minutes, tossing frequently, until evenly browned.
  5. Keep an eye on the coconut, as it can burn quickly.
  6. Remove toasted coconut from oven.
  7. Cool and serve.


Toast the amount of coconut you need for a specific recipe.

For example, if you are making Caramel Delights you will need to toast 3 cups of shredded coconut.

A large majority of recipes use toasted coconut as an ingredient are assuming you will use the sweetened coconut found in the baking section of your local supermarket.

Certainly, you can use sweetened coconut, although, I find it is far to sweet for my tastes.

I prefer using unsweetened coconut which is easy to find at supermarkets that carry a variety of healthy foods.
