Steamed Brussels Sprouts

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Fill a medium-sized saucepan with 1 to 2-inches of water
  2. Place steamer basket in saucepan.
  3. Pull loose leaves from around the stems of each Brussels sprout.
  4. Trim the stems.
  5. Use a paring knife to cut an X in the bottom of each stem. This will allow the sprouts to cook more evenly.

  7. Place sprouts in steamer basket.
  8. Steam until tender when pierced with the tip of a paring knife, 8 to 15 minutes.
  9. Remove sprouts to a serving dish.
  10. Add butter, salt, and black pepper to the sprouts. Toss to coat.
  11. Serve.

Comments

When buying sprouts plan on about 4 to 6 sprouts per person.

Brussels sprouts are in season from late fall through winter.

Choose the smaller of these bite-sized cabbages, as they will be more tender and sweeter tasting.
