Barbecue Sauce (BBQ Sauce)
Ingredients
For Double recipe
(Makes 2 cups)
Onion and Garlic:
- ¼ cup finely minced onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced or grated
Tomato Paste Mixture:
- One 6-ounce can tomato paste (½ cup)
- 6 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- ⅓ cup water
- 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Seasonings:
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 dashes ground cloves
- 2 dashes ground allspice
- 2 dashes of cayenne pepper

- ¼ cup tomato paste (½ of a 6-ounce can)
- 3 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 2½ tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Seasonings:
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ⅛ teaspoon chili powder
- Dash of ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Dash ground cloves
- Dash ground allspice
- Dash of cayenne pepper
Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan.
- Simmer, uncovered over medium-low heat 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce has deepened in color.
Comments
If you don't like smokey flavor, then substitute regular paprika for the smoked paprika.If you like a spicier barbecue sauce add a few extra dashes of red cayenne pepper.
Use this sauce when preparing my pulled pork sandwiches or BBQ chicken.
Refrigerate leftover sauce for up to 2 weeks or freeze for use at a later date.
