German Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients
For Single recipe
(Makes 16 brownies)
- Butter sides and bottom of a 8x8x2-inch square baking pan; set aside
Chocolate and Butter:
- 4-ounces German sweet chocolate
- ½ cup butter (1 stick)
Sugar and Vanilla:
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Eggs:
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Topping:
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- ½ cup dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup flaked coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)
- ½ cup coarsely chopped pecans

(Makes 32 brownies)
- Butter sides and bottom of a 13x9x2-inch oblong cake pan, set aside
Chocolate and Butter:
- 8-ounces German sweet chocolate
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
Sugar and Vanilla:
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Eggs:
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Topping Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- ¼ cup corn syrup
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 cups flaked coconut
- 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°.
- Grease baking pan and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, on low heat, melt butter and chocolate, stirring until smooth.
- Remove from heat.
- Add sugar and vanilla to chocolate mixture.
- Mix in the beaten eggs.
- Mix in the dry ingredients.
- Pour the chocolate batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- While the brownies are baking prepare the topping.
- For the topping, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and milk in a medium mixing bowl.
- Add the coconut and pecans to the topping ingredients; mix well.
- Drop by teaspoonful over the warm baked brownies; spread evenly.
- Move oven rack so that it is approximately 6-inches from the oven broiler.
- Turn on the oven broiler.
- Broil brownies with topping 6-inches from the heat for 20 to 60 seconds, or until top is lightly browned and bubbly. Check the brownies every 10 seconds to make sure the topping does not burn.
- Cool and serve.

These brownies may not be as elegant looking as a German chocolate cake but they are just as delicious and little less labor intensive to make!
