Turnips versus Rutabagas: Turnips are slightly smaller than rutabagas. Turnips have a white and purple exterior and a white interior. Turnips are slightly less sweet than rutabagas, however, roasting turnips will bring out a nice mellow and sweet flavor.

Turnips are a great substitute for potatoes. Turnips are much lower in carbs than potatoes and provide a wide variety of nutrients.

Medium-sized turnips should be about 2 to 3 inches in diameter.
