Apple Buttermilk Sweet Bread

Ingredients
For Single Recipe
(Makes 1 loaf)
- Grease 1 standard loaf pan and set aside
Ingredients To Be Creamed:
- ½ cup butter (1 stick)
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
Moist Ingredients To Beat In:
- 2 eggs
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
Dry Ingredients:
- 1½ cups flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
Buttermilk:
Apples, Nuts, Zest of Orange:
- ¾ cups peeled, cored, and finely chopped granny smith apples (1 to 2 medium-sized apples)
- ¼ cup ground walnuts (optional)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest

- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
Moist Ingredients To Beat In:
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Dry Ingredients:
- 3 cups flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Buttermilk:
Apples, Nuts, Zest of Orange:
- 1½ cups peeled, cored, and finely chopped granny smith apples (2 to 3 medium-sized apples)
- ½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)
- 2 tablespoons orange zest (about 1 orange)
Instructions

Generously grease loaf pan(s); set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy in texture.
- Beat in eggs one at a time.
- Mix in vanilla.
- Mix together dry ingredients in a medium bowl; set aside.
- Mix on low speed buttermilk alternately with dry ingredients; scraping sides as needed. Turn mixer up to medium-high and beat until batter is smooth; 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Peel, core, and finely chop apple.
- On medium speed add to work bowl and mix in apples, nuts (optional), and zest of orange.
- Pour batter into greased loaf pan(s).
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes. Bread is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from oven and cool on racks.
- Turn out and serve or wrap in foil and refrigerate or freeze.
