Instructions
-
Preheat oven:
Standard Oven: 400° | Convection Oven: 375°
- Place a piece of foil over the bottom of a large rimmed baking sheet. This will catch the bacon fat as the bacon crisps and make clean up much easier.
- Place a cooling rack over the foil.
- Lay the bacon on top of the rack in a single layer.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven.
- Bake until the bacon is nicely browned and crisp; approximately 12 to 23 minutes.
- Note the variation in baking time. Thinner bacon will take less time to bake so watch the bacon carefully to prevent burning.
- Remove from oven.
- Transfer the bacon to a platter and serve.
Comments
Baking bacon instead of frying on the stovetop will prevent grease splatters. There is no need to flip the bacon over as it will cook perfectly in the oven and brown on both sides.
If you do not have a cooling rack you can bake the bacon directly on the foil lined baking sheet, but it will be sitting in the bacon fat as it cooks. Drain the bacon on paper towels after removing from the oven.
Use good quality bacon. High quality thick apple smoked bacon works well for this recipe.
Tip: Drain the bacon fat into a container. Allow the bacon fat to cool to room temperature. Cover the container and refrigerate. Use in place of butter or oil when bacon fat will enhance the flavor of a recipe.
